There have been a lot of things that have influenced my work and i’ve decided to backtrack and take a closer look at the things that helped me get stronger as an artist.

Every illustrator has that one artist or cartoon that set the stage for them to build upon. For me, Looney Tunes has to be the cornerstone of my entire style. I learned the basics from copying, tracing, and applying new techniques from and to the characters. I was a Warner Bros. kid, so no Disney for me. I learned all the basic cartooning tricks such as stances as well as the animation and Reilly Method of drawing.

More after the jump…

The three illustrations above are new. I hadn’t drawn any Looney Tunes in a while so its interesting to see how they come out now. By far, my favorite character is Daffy and he’s the most fun to draw to me. Bugs comes in at a close second. Its interesting to note that i’m an avid supporter of building drawings using the Reilly method, but after finishing the illustrations and scanning them, i realized these characters have been with me so long, i didn’t even have to resort to using it.

Below are some drawings i ran across in a notebook from 1998 when i was about 10 or 11. This is a few of the MANY Looney Tunes drawings i’ve done over the years.

  1. Dude, you were quite the artist back in the day, and these recent Looney Toons drawings are awesome… Tweety Bird has always been and will probably always be my favorite :)
